Okay… There’s a lot that went into this strip and a lot going on so I expect some questions. Look in the blog on the main page for a link to the larger version of today’s strip if you want to check out the little stuff. So… Let the questions and comments commence! And let me know if you spot the cameo here;)
I’m not sure I can spot the cameo, probably over my head. I like the Extra Large version of the comic though. Before looking at that I didn’t realize Arthur’s sword seems to be broken…
I do sense a Monty Python joke somewhere in panel 6 though.
You are correct Dave! Many people think that the Sword in the Stone is Excalibur. If you recall though, King Arthur received Excalibur from the Lady in the Lake, how can they be the same weapon?!
The Sword in the Stone, also known as the Sword of the King or the Sword of the Gods, was actually broken in a duel with Sir Pellinore! Since Excalibur was taken from King Arthur, he had to make due with his broken weapon….reforged in a way :).
Yup. Just as I haven’t shown all of Arthur’s face (I have his design already so never fear there. He’s not faceless!), I also have not fully shown the sword. TB wants me to portray something that is difficult to draw with the sword and I’m working out the best way to do it when I reveal the full sword.
Also, this is the last page of the last prologue we currently have to offer. Now, it’s all on with the story! Monday will see the crew back in the dining hall for breakfast:)
Yep, as said before, this is the last strip of the last prologue that we have planned for Shards at this time. On with the story! I will soon be adding more full-color pictures: Sir Galahad, King Arthur, and Fairy Godmother are all planned next to be put up once their character portraits are inked and colored. I think you might be surprised by our design of Fairy Godmother. I looked at lots of different versions and didn’t want her to look like the Disney versions or anyone else’s. Among some unique things that’ll be visible in the color pic, she has pale blue skin. She’s a fairy after all so I took off on that tangent. Anyway, this isn’t the last you’ll see or hear of her. And of course Arthur and his knights are very prominent in Shards throughout our story.
